US Ambassador Peter Henry Barlerin

The Minister in charge of Mines, received a delegation from the United States Embassy in Cameroon, recently in Yaoundé. At the end of the exchanges the Minister pledged to encourage American investors to choose Cameroon as a destination to do business. Prerequisites to be respected for American companies wishing to invest in Cameroon are among others, the ability to enforce contracts.

It must be insured and guaranteed by an efficient and transparent judicial system. American companies are conservative and demanding, as you can see, says Henry Barlerin. He is the Ambassador of the United States in Cameroon. He was speaking during an interview with a private daily newspaper, Le Mesager.

ATTRACTIVE TAXATION

There is also taxation that must be attractive and one that gives incentives. Not to mention the corruption and its perverse affects that play on potential investors.  Corruption is a scourge that undermines the country. More effort is needed to twist the neck of the plague. Cameroon is below average in Africa, south of the Sahara, says the US Diplomat.

The United States works closely with the World Bank. through the Doing Business in Africa which identifies areas where African countries can do better, have identified several areas where Cameroon is relatively weak. But identifying problems is a beginning of solutions. We, reveals Peter Henry Barlerin, are also working with the American Chamber of Commerce in Cameroon, and Cameroonian business women. Our goal is to advocate to the government to better structure the private sector.

Recall that economic operators believe that the business climate is not good at all. Because of the problems that undermine the economy such as taxation, especially the weight of the debt that undermines efforts to revive the economy.
